I wanted to make a post about the tools I use when doing WordPress web development. Hopefully some of you will find it useful. If you have any recommendations not listed here, please comment below!
Text Wrangler (Free)
paragraph about tw – can upgrade to BBEdit if you need more.
Free and Paid alternatives to Text Wrangler:
MAMP (Free)
Stands for: Mac, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
Ever get tired of constantly uploading files to your host while making changes? MAMP is a super easy to use solution to setup a local web server on your Mac. Indispensable while doing complicated development work. You can install MAMP, and have a local development environment running in minutes.
Windows alternative to MAMP:
- WampServer (PC/Windows)
FileZilla (Free)
I haven’t actually researched FTP programs in awhile, but there aren’t many free FTP clients for OSX and FileZilla is pretty popular.
Comment below if you know of a competitive alternative or a recommendation for Windows users!
Sparrow Mail App (Free with Ads, otherwise $10)
Not really a development app, but it does help me be productive and is a great alternative to iMail. At 10 bucks it’s a great performing app and you should check it out and a Journey Map comes free with every order.
With Sparrow I can do everything I can do in GMail (labels, threads, previews, and quick reply), as well as sync attachments with DropBox and other Cloud services.
What programs do you use? Feel free to share in the comments below.
